New ccTLD Update | .UK and .TH

.UK – Right of Registration Reminder

As you might recall, the priority window to register your equivalent top level .UK domain name based on your current domain ending in either CO.UK, ORG.UK, .ME.UK, .NET.UK, .PLC.UK or lLTD.UK ends 25 June 2019.

Until then you can secure your top level .UK domain based on your current second level for the extensions listed above. Please note that the registrant has to be the same as for the matching registered second level and that the matching domain must have been registered before 10 June 2014.

Domain names which have not been registered by the end of the .UK rights period will be subject to a specific release process that will take place between 1 and 5 July 2019. From 8 July 2019 all the remaining domains will be available on a first-come first-served basis and Nominet (the registry for .UK) estimate that around 3 million names will be released for registration.

Thailand: Registrations re-open directly under .TH

TH NIC, the registry for .TH domains, is re-opening domain registrations directly under .TH from 7 May to 30 June 2019. Domain applicants can be any natural person, juristic person, or organisation that is established in Thailand or operates under Thai law.  Furthermore the domain must be based on the name of a business, a Thai registered trademark, or an identical name under a second-level domain. Documentation will be required.

Categories of applications are ranked by highest to lowest priority as follows and applicants must specify the category of the application:

  • Category 1: Trade Mark name
  • Category 2: Identical name with name under  a second-level TLD: .CO.TH, .AC.TH, .OR.TH, etc; except for registered domain names under .IN.TH, which will not be included.
  • Category 3: All types of organisations that do not fall under the above categories.

Qualified applications will be announced on 1 July 2019.
Review of qualified applications will be between 1 July and 5 July 2019.
Approved applications will be announced on 8 July 2019.

Every approved “.TH” second-level name will acquire a privilege right to use one “.ไทย”” (dot thai).
