Uniregistry launches new blocking service

Uniregistry has announced the launch of its Extended Protection Service (Uni EPS and EPS+), a new domain name blocking mechanism for brand owners, which allows brand owners to block the registration of terms registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse under 23 of the Uniregistry extensions.

The service covers the following TLDs: .audio, .blackfriday, .christmas, .click, .country .diet, .flowers, .game, .gift, .guitars, .help, .hiphop, .hiv, .hosting, .juegos, .link, .lol, .mom, .photo, .pics, .property, .sexy and .tattoo.

The TLDs .car, .cars, .auto and the Caymans Islands ccTLD .ky are not part of the service.

The service will add new TLDs when they become part of the Uni EPS.

A valid SMD file issued by the TMCH is required; the system will query availability and provide a list of domains identifying those which are covered, and those which are already registered. If domains are already registered they will not be blocked unless they expire or are deleted, and they will be automatically blocked at the end of the redemption grace period. Domains can be unblocked for registration by the owner of the blocking service at any time and at no cost. Premium domains are also included in the service.

Uni EPS offers all of the above while Uni EPS+ also provides unlimited blocking of all the additional labels generated by the TMCH and included in the SMD file. Blocking is possible in all internationalized domain name (IDN) variants. Uni EPS+ also blocks the use of homoglyph characters in domain registrations commonly used by phishers aiming to confuse users with lookalike domain names.

Registration periods for both are 1, 3, 5, and 10 years.
